Skin Care Monday: The Original Mint Julep Masque for combination and oily skin

clay mask for combination and oily skin

Welcome back to Skin Care Monday!
I have professed my adoration for clay masks a few times before and wrote about my favorite ones here, today I'm adding one more to my list. The Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque has been a great discovery.
Lets start with the ingredient list, because it's short, which I love!
Going in order of amounts present, we start with Kaolin (white clay), this makes this mask more delicate than the green clay masks and this means I can use it all over my face without dehydrating my cheeks, and that I love! Second active ingredient is Bentonite, which is a strong absorbent mineral clay and will help extract all the impurities in your skin. Next up we have Glycerin, a humectant which makes sure the clays don't dehydrate your skin, and Zinc Oxide which works as an astringent to help shrink your pores. The last of the active ingredients is Sulfur, a basic element present in many acne-fighting medicines and will help exfoliate your skin and kill bacteria responsible for breakouts. So overall it contains all the ingredients oily skin needs to be purified and also makes sure not to dry it out too much!

The directions say to apply the mask on cleansed skin and leave to dry for about 15 minutes, which is pretty standard for this type of masks. What makes it more pleasant is the wonderful menthol smell that is is infused with and which makes the feeling of the mask even more refreshing. Unfortunately this is thanks to perfume and if your have a problem with that, maybe this mask isn't for you, but I personally haven't seen my skin react badly to it and I love the smell of it!

After you spent 15 minutes looking like Shrek and freaking our boyfriend/postman/neighbours, you can remove the mask with a warm washcloth to reveal clean and smaller pores and a pleasently smooth skin that doesn't tug or scream for hydration.

I am completely hooked on this and glad to have made the discovery. I definitely recommend it for combination and oily skin. You can find it at Boqz in Eindhoven or online on Boozyshop in different formats: a 2oz tube will cost you 3.50€ and a full size 8oz only 7.95€. Believe me, it's a steal!!!

Have you ever tried this mask? What is your favorite weekly treatment?
