Skin care Monday: new Garnier products for oily and combination skin

Good morning beauties and welcome back to Skin care Monday!!
It's been a while since I posted one of these. It looks like I have found my skin care routine and my skin is happy so there weren't many things to report. I am currently using La Roche Posay products which are not the easiest to come by, but they're so good that I made peaca with it. Until this duo crossed my path. Garnier has recently launched their new Moisture Match 24h moisturizers and I hopped to the occasion to try the Shine Be Gone Mattifying Cream especially formulated to mattify and moisturize combination to oily skin.

The moisturizer has a new sorbet-like texture and whipped feeling which I fell immediately in love with, especially for summer when I can really use some refreshing. The smell is also very fresh and not overpowering. Garnier claims that the skin will be mattified thanks to the green tea extract, will feel refreshed and look smoother. Regarding the actual performance of the cream, it definitely felt nice and moisturizing and left the skin looking smooth and matte. Unfortunately the mattifying effect didn't last long and there was no sebum-regulating miracle going on, my skin started shining after a couple of hours as if a used a normal moisturizer. Too bad, this did not end up being my holy grail moisturizer, but it is a great bargain for the price (6€ at the drugstore).

Although a good moisturizer is important, the most important step for me is cleansing so from the same line I also tried the Cleansing Gel for combination and oily skin. It is a typical gel cleanser that foams with water. Same as my staple La Roche Posay Effaclar, which really saved my skin. As a beauty blogger I love to find new great products and thought this could be a catch. I was wrong. This cleanser is lacking all the good ingredients to fight acne and is too harsh for the sensisitve parts of my skin leaving me with new breakouts on my chin and dried out skin on my cheeks. A bit of a fail, too bad.

So after all a good and a fail product from the drugstore for combination and oily skin.
What is your go to products to balance your skin? Do you find drugstor products can compete with higher end or pharmacy products?
